#tbt: Bird Aviary

Throw back Thursday: taking a look at stuff I've made in the past.

Once upon a time, we had a whole menagerie of pets and in 2012 this included a few Zebra Finches. One day, I decided their cage wasn't big enough, so I stole some wood out of Mr Strawberry's stash and went off to the store for some tiny mesh. The tray even slides out for easy cleaning (I just put newspaper in there and changed it every day) and we could water the plant through the mesh. The really fun bit was changing the branches, which get covered in poo and I figured it was more enriching to change it occasionally. It has a large door for doing that, but of course the finches had a good old whizz around the living room every time I did it.
Aw, they were lovely, but they were also incredibly messy and so noisy that anyone who ever slept overnight would complain :/

#tbt: Ukulele Case

Throw back Thursday: taking a look at stuff I've made in the past.

About four years ago, I bought myself a little uke, full of heartfelt intentions to be an awesome ukulele player. For some reason I decided it needed a cute case, though why I don't know as I only play at home.
I have since moved on to a beautiful wooden one, despite the fact that I still suck. I love playing it though and according to Zander I play a mean 'Twinkle Twinkle', so who cares how much I suck at strumming patterns.

#tbt: Captain America Cape

Throw back Thursday: taking a look at stuff I've made in the past.

A customer commissioned this through my online store I Can Be...Super Me last year, and it is my second favourite cape ever (the most favourite being an awesome Batgirl cape I made)

#tbt: Bean's Beach Fun Birthday Cake

Throw back Thursday: taking a look at stuff I've made in the past.
I made my sandpit loving boy and beach cake for his 2nd birthday.
The sand is made out of digestive biscuits, the shells are white chocolate set in shell shaped moulds and the tools are marzipan I believe.
Awww, can you tell the number two has been used before? Bless the second born, for they shall have hand-me-downs ;)

#tbt: Hobbit Hole (Bag End) Cake

Throw back Thursday: taking a look at stuff I've made in the past.
Exactly six years ago (it was actually his birthday yesterday), I made my fellow Hobbit loving Dad a Bag End cake. It didn't quite turn out the way I wanted but I was pleased regardless. Mum put some amazing sparkler candles on it and told us all it was Gandalf's fireworks <3

#tbt: Mr Strawberry's Pizza Cake

Throw back Thursday: taking a look at stuff I've made in the past.
I can never get the red sauce quite right, but for a first attempt, this was amazing.

#tbt: Mum's Bumble Bee Cake

Throw back Thursday: taking a look at stuff I've made in the past.
Another of Mum's birthday cakes, her favourite bumble bees in her favourite marzipan and dark chocolate.

#tbt: Ed's 3rd Birthday Cake

Throw back Thursday: taking a look at stuff I've made in the past.
You've probably guessed, but Ed had a pirate birthday.
The metal work is just marzipan. Looking at it now, I should have either coloured it or painted it, but hey ho, it was tasty and he loved it. That is all that matters after all.

#tbt: Preschool Nativity Sheep Costume

Throw back Thursday: taking a look at stuff I've made in the past.

Once upon a time I made an emergency sheep costume for Ed out of two bath towels.
On reflection, it would have been cheaper to buy a costume, but I probably had too many towels at the time anyway.

#tbt: Christmas Jumper

Throw back Thursday: taking a look at stuff I've made in the past.

Every year, we go to see Father Christmas on the Santa Steam Train and we all wear Christmas jumpers for the occasion. Never one to buy something I can make, I made this two years ago. Sadly, I think this year I'm going to have to wear something else as it'll look ridiculous (more so) now that I've accidentally lost some weight. I best get moving on that as we're going this weekend....gaaaa.

#tbt: Mum's Rose Birthday Cake

Throw back Thursday: taking a look at stuff I've made in the past.
Another marzipan creation (because we love it), this one was for my Mum's birthday and was my firts attempt at freehand lacework (if that's the right name) with dribbley chocolate.

#tbt: Ed's star hat

Throw back Thursday: taking a look at stuff I've made in the past.

This turned up on my time hop this week and, actually, it breaks my heart. The hat that squishy faced Ed is wearing was amazing but sadly it was lost. I think it was stolen, though I don't remember the circumstances. The stars on it were hard work and it took me ages the get them how I wanted them. Still, I shall have to try again. It's too cute not to give it another go.

#tbt: Ed's First Birthday Cake

Throw back Thursday: taking a look at stuff I've made in the past.
The picture quality is terrible, but it's all I have.
This was Ed's first birthday cake. The stars are made from marzipan dipped in white chocolate and by golly, I did not make enough of them...

#tbt: Wedding Cake

Throw back Thursday: taking a look at stuff I've made in the past.
I have finally found (by accident, after months of searching) the file hiding photos of all the cakes I've made in the past. So, inevitably the next few months will be dedicated to them.
I'll start with our wedding cake.
I remember the last few days before the wedding were specifically for making and decorating cupcakes, everything else had to be done by then so I had time.
In the hoo haa of the day, we completely forgot to cut the top cake, so no one got any of it, which turned out to be unfortunate (for our beloved guests) because when we did finally crack into it, it turned out to be the most deliciously moist, chocolatey cake ever. Ah, shame.

#tbt: Jar Full of Happiness

Throw back Thursday: taking a look at stuff I've made in the past.
I have no idea why I made this, the date on the file is Summer 2015, which to be honest was a rather challenging one, so I'm presuming it was a 'fight back' project. It's freakin adorable though, and I should have printed it off and stuck it on every wall in the house :)

#tbt: Matilda Cushions

Throw back Thursday: taking a look at stuff I've made in the past.

I made these for a friend of mine. She had found the perfect fabric for her Matilda obsessed niece and the cushions perfectly sized for her bed but she needed someone to do the rest.
I particularly love the oxford edges, that extra bit of fabric gives them a lovely finish.

#tbt: Communications Cuffs

Throw back Thursday: taking a look at stuff I've made in the past.

I made these for my boys years ago and they still play with them. They have so much play value in them, and the boys have such vivid imaginations that they can use them in just bout any game, bringing up  huge variety of characters or information on that little screen, be it batman or a map. It's too cute.
Available here.
