#tbt: Little Dickie Bows

Throw back Thursday: taking a look at stuff I've made in the past.

Christmas 2010, the boys were only one and two. I needed a nice outfit for Christmas day, but I didn't fancy forking out, so I made them little dickie bows to wear with the clothes their Uncle used to send them when he worked for a posh children's wear company. They had to be boy-proof, so I made them out of cotton backed felt, with velcro on the back. 

I fused the cotton to the felt with the magic of bondaweb, cut the pieces to size, stitched around the edges to stop any fraying and hand stitched the bows in place.

They worked beautifully and the boys looked adorable.

About four years ago, I bought myself a little uke, full of heartfelt intentions to be an awesome ukulele player. For some reason I decided it needed a cute case, though why I don't know as I only play at home.
I have since moved on to a beautiful wooden one, despite the fact that I still suck. I love playing it though and according to Zander I play a mean 'Twinkle Twinkle', so who cares how much I suck at strumming patterns.

This Christmas present turned out to be one of the coolest things I've ever made. When trying to think of someting to make a friend of mine, I decided to go with something Aquabats themed since he recently got his little boy almost as obsessed with the show as he is (and equally Mr Strawberry and my boys). I decided to make a key ring as I was making the Pokeball keyrings at the same time, but it turned out to be far too big. I gave it to him anyway, presuming he'd find a use for it regardless and I wasn't disappointed. On Boxing day, he posted this on Facebook...

...along with the status that this was the coolest bag tag ever!

Monday Make: Pokeball Keyring

I made these for the boys and a few other people for Christmas gifts. They're really simple, just felt on felt with a bit of ribbon and a keyring attachment. I used my free machine embroidery foot, hence the wiggly stitching (I still need more practice).

Bean keeps putting his on his belt loops, which is so cute. They're a bit big for a keyring, but perfect for imaginative play.

I made these stockings a few years ago for the boys, so obviously, it being Zander's first Christmas, he'll be needing one too.

I didn't have enough of the green starry fabric, so I had to make do with what I had in my festive fabric box, but I'm very pleased with the result despite it being a nightmare to sew in the same room as a wondering baby.

I've written his name on it but it takes a few days to dry so I'll update another day.

Every year, we go to see Father Christmas on the Santa Steam Train and we all wear Christmas jumpers for the occasion. Never one to buy something I can make, I made this two years ago. Sadly, I think this year I'm going to have to wear something else as it'll look ridiculous (more so) now that I've accidentally lost some weight. I best get moving on that as we're going this weekend....gaaaa.

I made this for the boys in 2011 I think. It's a bit trashed now and a few of the pockets need re-making as the plastic has ripped with over-use, but it's absolutely perfect for us because you can get two chocolates or sweets in each pocket. I imagine next year it will have three in each...I'm sure Zander will finally be old enough for sugar filled foods by then.

I made these for a friend of mine. She had found the perfect fabric for her Matilda obsessed niece and the cushions perfectly sized for her bed but she needed someone to do the rest.
I particularly love the oxford edges, that extra bit of fabric gives them a lovely finish.

I made these for my boys years ago and they still play with them. They have so much play value in them, and the boys have such vivid imaginations that they can use them in just bout any game, bringing up  huge variety of characters or information on that little screen, be it batman or a map. It's too cute.

I had completely forgotten about this and came across this photo by accident.
I then had to ransack my computer files to find these...

Sorry about the quality, it was pre-iPhone.

My little sister had asked me to make her a dress for her Brother-in-Law-to-be's wedding (it was before she married her now husband), so I made this.
It was a bit of a nightmare because personally I find making a dress to fit long distance really difficult with only had a few fitting days but I loved making this dress, the bead work in particular. I'm not 100% certain it fitted as well as she would like, but in all the photos I've seen, she looked incredible.
